Accessibility Statement

Alf's Cycles is committed to making this website accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of technology or ability.

What We Have Done

This website has been built with accessibility as a priority. We have taken the following steps to ensure it is inclusive and usable:

All pages use semantic HTML elements such as header, main, nav, section and footer to provide a clear and logical document structure for screen readers and assistive technologies. Every page includes a skip-to-content link that becomes visible on keyboard focus, allowing keyboard users to bypass the navigation and go straight to the main content.

All images have descriptive alt text that conveys the meaning and context of the image. Decorative SVG elements are hidden from assistive technology using aria-hidden and focusable attributes. The main navigation is labelled with an aria-label to help screen reader users identify it.

Colour contrast has been carefully considered throughout the site. The amber and dark colour scheme meets WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements for text. Interactive elements have visible focus indicators using focus-visible outlines so that keyboard users can always see where they are on the page.

The site uses a responsive, mobile-first layout that adapts from narrow screens to wide desktops. Text is set in relative units and headings use clamp() for fluid scaling, so content remains readable at all viewport widths and zoom levels. Clickable areas for links and navigation items have been sized to meet minimum touch target guidelines.

The opening times on the Find Us page use JavaScript to highlight today's hours and show whether the shop is currently open. This information is announced to screen readers using an aria-live region, so it does not require a visual check.

Known Limitations

The embedded map on the Find Us page uses a third-party iframe from OpenStreetMap. While the iframe has a descriptive title attribute, the content within it is controlled by OpenStreetMap and may not fully meet accessibility standards. The shop address is provided in text form alongside the map as an alternative.

Standards

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. The HTML and CSS have been validated using the W3C validators and tested with the WAVE accessibility checker.
